22 - 28 April ~ Dance Rehearsals and Adventures between academic pressures ~

This week was quite a whopper academically! I wrote an ADLN test, an English test, handed in the philosophy lesson plan and submitted a maths assignment.
To survive all of this, I had to reward myself with going to a sokkie at the end of the week :)

The sokkie was "country" themed and we were charged only R10 (instead of the usual R20) if we were dressed according to the theme. In the end, Liesje and I decided that boots and a bandanna counted.
As usual, I thoroughly enjoyed the sokkie! But I had one of those moments where I realised that I was chatting comfortably with people I had not really met before (without Liesje there to back me up). When that happens, I suddenly become aware that I am in fact a whole grown up and that I can pretend to be a proper adult just as well as other people around me.

But I am realising that I have jumped to my Friday-night adventure without writing about Thursday!
On Thursday Rachel drove back from service learning at speed in an attempt to get me back on time to queue for the Choir lunch-hour concert. Seeing that the queue was already nearly around the block, I messaged on the CCSt group chat to see whether there was someone already in line who I could join. Marcel kept a place for me and the two of us sat together for the performance. Marcel was rather on edge since the church was still playing a giant game of tag and so he was rather worried about being "it".

The choir was spectacular! I forget every time how utterly amazing they are! Although they are constantly performing different songs and many of them are unfamiliar to me, every song is heaven to the ears and I never want it to end. They perform such a wide range of material, but I especially love when they have done covers of popular music like Johnny Clegg's work or even pop songs.

I had an English exam on the Thursday evening (which was a terribly set paper my goodness!), so having the opportunity to sit and soak up some wonderful music was such a treat! A very much needed rest in the middle of such a rough week!

About the exam-- the paper was not a fair one. The most arbitrary questions were asked. Thankfully I did well, but I had myself worked up into a near panic attack when I was checking my work. The results were released immediately given that it was a computer test, and while I was relieved to have done well, I was annoyed with myself for allowing myself to get so anxious. I phoned Dana as I left the venue to see if she was keen for a quick meet up. I was supposed to go to her res for a hug, but it turned into having hot chips on the top floor of the neelsie while reading Anne's House of Dreams. We even had ice cream from Moody Blues afterwards! It was an excellent end to the day! Somehow, I always end up doing something unexpected when I am with Dana, it's like being in a storybook.

To come back to a chronological order-- on Saturday, I went shopping with Liesje. We looked for a skirt for the medal test and also did some more general grocery shopping. While we were in Pick n Pay clothing, she found some stripy green shorts which she was convinced would look good on me. She made me try them on, and then buy them (they were thankfully on sale and she used her smart shopper points which knocked a huge ammount off!) She was quite impressed with herself for spotting them and being able to pick out my style and colours.
We also went into some spaza-like shops or "side winkels" as I want to call them. They weren't the safest, but they were the best place to find baking chocolate for Lieneke it seems. Liesje was in her element! She loves a good bargain, but moreover I think she likes surprises and finding hidden gems. The smallest things caught her attention and gave her great pleasure, it was so very wholesome!

Another thing I did on Saturday was to attend the medal test bootcamp. I felt like a bit of an imposter to be honest. I didn't have the right sort of clothes, and I was one of very few girls without a partner. But, Lene complimented my waltzing and I did enjoy myself. I knew that I was definitely going to do the test, and the excitement of that in itself kept me buzzing.
Liesje admitted to me while we were shopping that she still gets nervous every time she does the ballroom tests and competitions. She says that her legs shake, though I have never seen that. It was so strange to me that this can be the case despite the fact that she has been dancing for three years now and does so well. It is such an odd discovery to realise that other people are just as nervous as I am, they just hide it better!
