Liesje Verjaar!

Some of my favourite moments 
  • Prepping the night before-- meeting Jana, blowing balloons, standing precariously on chairs, keeping Lien company in the kitchen and making silly videos 
  • Winning the three legged race with her by far (Clearly sokking together helps us sync up!)
  • Chatting with Jana about how we came to be Christians
  • hearing that lLsa got placement at Clanwilliam
  • my speech going well, even though Anneke and I spoke much longer than Liesje's family (oh well :))
  • throwing buckets of water over Liesje with Anneke (My idea, but more fun with two because she got twice as wet!)
  • cleaning up while blasting ABBA music and using the bottles of seeds as shakers
  • Liesje scooping me up after I tried to push her over when we took pictures in a purple patch of flowers
  • falling flat on my face when trying to do wheelbarrow races with Jana
  • Liesje getting hoop earrings which looked so stunning on her. Her wet hair becoming volumous as it dried, making her look quite the most stunning girl in the room. 
  • squishing Liesje into the boot with her presents and flowers. Jana and I both offered to ride in the boot instead, but she was in her element surrounded by her things and quite enjoyed herself.
  • Having supper together and watching "Peter Pan and Wendy" while I tried to keep my eyes open and cut out cones for Lieneke's presentation. Chatting with Daneldi about making personal goals to challenge oneself daily while Jana and Berno spoke about lasers and designs 
  • Liesje walking me home and watching her disappear into the orange-tinted mist. Watching her felt like a warm hug, she truly is just such a special friend!

Moving to Villiersdorp-- My first week

Wednesday 10th January 21:10 I seem to be rather bad at this "blogging" thing, but since this is my first year teaching, I figure it is worth another shot to try an document an important year.  I moved out to Villiersdorp on Monday morning (as I write this it is Wednesday evening), and had Mom and Dad to help me unpack everything. There was actually rather little to unpack since the garden flat is furnished. Mom & Dad were more necessary for the driving bit, which I would not manage on my own just yet. Just driving the road to school is terrifying. I have never had to travel faster than 55km/h, so to suddenly have to travel in a 100 zone is quite a challenge! I did manage to drive it alone just fine this morning when I went to unpack my classroom though, so I suspect I will get used to it fairly quickly.  Other than setting up my classroom, I have not been up to too much. Week 6: 18 - 24 March

This week was mostly an academic one with little to no social happenings. That makes it a relatively uninteresting week I am afraid.  Much of the first half of the week was spent preparing for the Afrikaans test on Wednesday morning. The test itself was relatively short in comparison to the amount of content I had to study. I felt confident that I was able to earn enough marks to pass, but beyond that I have not a clue how it went. I don't really want to think to much about it beyond the fact that it is one more thing off my list.  Other academic happenings include furiously rewriting my entire part of the Teaching Assessment Plan (TAP) because Dr Rock was not quite satisfied with it. In hindsight I entirely agree with her that the second version is more interesting, but it was quite a lot of work and I found myself nearly in tears on Wednesday evening. All the flight things and Day 1

  Hello everyone, By popular request, I will be attempting to keep you all relatively up to date with my travels and adventures in Israel. Please bear with me because I am new to this and also have an assignment I need to work on while I am away (hooray). The purpose of this blog is mostly to experiment with something new, so your suggestions are very welcome 😊 So without further ado- Here is the summary of the journey so far! First stop: Istanbul Turkey (The airport terminal 1 April) I have very little to say about the airport other than to say that it is huge! Because the stop was so long, I also ended up working on my project at 5am. While I realise for some of you students this is a norm, I cannot say I enjoyed the experience.  I have attached a photo from the flight over. I would also like to praise and thank Turkish airlines for their amazing hospitality- they have an animated Signed safety video for the Deaf which is definitely something I have never seen before.
